Todd - Bennett Fund

Thank you for your concern for the victims of the quadruple shooting in Arlington Saturday morning.  Three of the victims are members of our church, Tabernacle Baptist Church, here in Arlington.  Their names are Johnny Todd, Tana Todd and Sheryl Bennett.  Johnny and Tana were married and have three children ages 3, 5 and 6.  Tana did not survive.  Johnny was shot through the neck and miraculously survived with little more than tissue damage.

The other lady killed was Sheryl Bennett.  She was Johnny’s sister.  She and her estranged husband were in the midst of a divorce.  He is the man who was arrested and charged with capital murder for the shooting. Sheryl’s 12-year-old son is having a very difficult time with all of this, as you can imagine.  Sheryl leaves five children. Their ages are 1, 3, 7, 10, & 12.  This whole incident is just awful in every imaginable way.  Beyond the tragic loss of life, there now are 8 children in this family who have no mother.  The remaining family is very loving, but they have virtually no means with which to care for the children.  This family is a working class family and as such, is just getting by.  To add the burden of caring for these 8 little ones is devastating.  They want to be able to care for the children, but they are going to need some help.  Our church has stepped up to the plate and has really been a blessing to them since the incident; however, we are a small congregation and are not able to meet the ongoing needs that they are going to have.  I really would like to make some kind of appeal to the Arlington community to see if there might be some who would help us care for these who are facing this most unimaginable and horrific situation.

We also wish to express our sincere appreciation to the police and medical personnel who responded to the scene and who rendered such proficient and professional aide to Johnny in his most desperate hour of need.  They very possibly saved his life.

This family came to our church about 5 years ago and has become a major part of the fabric of our congregation.  There are four generations of this family who are now faithful members, and we are grieving together over their deaths and heartaches.  We will continue to do all that we can do to help them, because we love them.  Sadly, the fabric of our church has been torn and will never be the same.

We have set up a fund to receive donations on their behalf. To those willing to help this family bear a burden none of us would ever want to have to shoulder alone we say, “Thank You.”
